About Kohler-Andrae State Park

Located along the western shore of Lake Michigan near Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Kohler-Andrae State Park spans over 800 acres and showcases a diverse landscape of beaches, sand dunes, wetlands, prairie, and forests. The park was originally established in the early 20th century when philanthropist Walter J. Kohler donated land to the state in 1927 to preserve the natural shoreline and provide outdoor recreational opportunities. Today, it is a popular destination for swimming, hiking, camping, fishing, and bird watching. The park’s extensive sand dunes rise prominently above the shoreline, creating dynamic ecosystems that support several native plant species including wild lupine and bearberry. In addition to its natural beauty, the park also features notable landmarks such as the war memorials and interpretive signage detailing the local flora and fauna. Winter visitors enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing through the forest and dune areas. With well-maintained trails and campgrounds, Kohler-Andrae State Park attracts visitors year-round seeking a blend of tranquility and active outdoor pursuits. Its proximity to Sheboygan allows easy access to both natural settings and urban amenities, making it a frequently visited spot on Wisconsin’s lakeshore.
